Let's Talk Fuel and Your Car

In today's economy everyone who owns a car feels the financial crunch when they pull up to the gas station.  There a number of ways you can stretch between gas fill ups, but you must be diligent in your use of fuel in order to truly save money each month. Here's a few little hints to help you.

1) Never allow your tank to get below half a tank.
2) Fill up in the early morning hours when fuel is at its maximum density. When fuel is heated during the day, it contains air which is then pumped into your tank. You will not get the maximum fuel from the pump if the fuel is not high density.
Add one bottle to your fuel tank with every fill up,
it will stretch your fuel consumption
3) Be sure to run all errands at one time, on the same day with the most efficient route. Think of your shopping as if you were running in a circle, then plan your errands accordingly. You'll save gas and time if you do it this way.
4) Limit your driving if at all possible. Stay away from city driving where you have to stop and go, or sit at a long light.
5) Keep your vehicle maintenance up by getting regular oil changes, check fluids, and saving your brakes.
6) Use public transportation when possible. If you live in the country, this could be a problem, but if you're near a city, utilize it whenever you can to help save on your fuel bill.
7) Previously I talked about those grocery discount cards, use them to get discounts on your gas. Sometimes you can get between 10 cents to a dollar discount at the pump. I know I do it all the time, so it can be done.
8) Don't forget to talk to your insurance agent to see if you can gain discount credits for your type of car, accident free status, or for just being a loyal customer. It can save you a few hundred bucks a year.
9) Another trick is to check out www.gasbuddy.com to see which gas station has the best prices in your area.

If you're driving a gas hog of a car, consider selling it and buying a more fuel efficient vehicle, you'll be glad you made the switch. I'd rather have a fuel efficient car with money in my pocket, than a vehicle that constantly needs repairs, and more fuel.
