When you plan a dinner party or holiday feast, you pay very close attention to your menu, ensuring you have all the ingredients to make your dishes that much more memorable. Your table decoration should hold just as much attention as your dinner dishes receive. You have to have fun in decorating your table paying special attention to the color of the decorations and what makes it even more special, such as the candle holders, flowers, vases, napkin rings, candles and the other decorations on the table.  You should also ensure that the linen, silverware, and tableware accent the décor and blend together the theme to which you are trying to achieve. When everything is planned out correctly, the final product produces an attractive dining room table that you will be proud of and a memory your guests will never forget. This is not only for holidays or special occasions it’s perfect for that Sunday brunch, or afternoon tea with your closest friends.

If you are setting the table for a formal or intimate dinner, candles on the table are a good way to set the tone for the right ambiance. Make sure your candle holders match the décor you are seeking to achieve. Natural materials, such as metal or wood can work with just about occasion. Intimate dinners call for smaller holders such as glass or small metal holders. Flowers are another way to enhance your table. Small intimate dinners call for delicate flowers, formal dinners or brunches call for larger flowers. When selecting the vase be sure to select the one that will not aggravate your guests while at the table. One of the worst table settings I had to deal with over the years was a dinner party at a friend home where they had these gaudy flower arrangements that were so big you had to crane your neck to see the person across from you while having a conversation. When I left that party that night, I vowed to never allow myself to do that to any guest in the future. In addition, always leave room on the table to set down dishes in between courses. Never allow yourself to fill the middle of the table so much with decorations that you fail to remember that guests will need to put hot dishes down.

Many friends have teased me over the years because I love linen napkins and napkin rings. Both items just make a dinner table a little bit more luxurious and elegant. One key suggestion when using metal napkin rings be sure to match the metal to your silverware, never use silver flatware with gold rings, just doesn’t look very nice together.
