Greek Seasoning

Greek food is the best if it's made correctly. Most people don't realize that the Turks captured the Greek Islands and had control for many years, changing their traditional recipes into their own. So many people think that certain dishes are authentic Greek cuisine when in fact, it's actually transformed Turk dishes. Take for example the Gyro or Souvlaki sandwich, if it's made with french fries (Patates Tiganites) stuffed into a sandwich that is actually not Greek, it's a Turk sandwich brought to Greece during the Greco-Turkish war (1919-1922). Patates Tiganites are a side dish not a filler for any dish. The following seasoning ingredients are great with so many dishes such as Souvlaki (chicken or beef), Gyros, Soutzoukakia, Soup Fasolada, Shrimp Saganaki, Moussaka, Keftedes (Greek Meatballs), Psani Plaki (Baked Fish with tomatoes and onions), Hummus, Greek Lasagna, Avgolemono Soup (Greek Version of Chicken Noodle soup - Yum) and my favorite Spanakopita and Dolma.

Greek Seasoning Ingredients:

1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried mint
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp dried minced onion
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried marjoram
1/4 tsp dried minced garlic

Grind together in a mortar and pestle until a powder is formed then store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
