Neeps and Tatties

Neeps and Tatties

Aunt Kate used to say that neeps and tatties can be served with roasted Chicken, turkey, roast beef, or any meat dish during the week or for Sunday Dinner. When I first heard the title of this recipe I was like, Neeps and tatties? What is that, it sounds nasty, but in fact, it is delicious. So have an open mind and palette for it. Try it and then tell me if you don’t like it, but I bet you’ll say you love it as much as I do. It is a Scottish side dish that is loved by most citizens of the UK and Ireland.

Ingredients:

1-1/2 lbs medium potatoes cubed

1-1/2 lbs turnip cubed

2 tbsp salted butter cubed

3 cups of water each pot

1/2 cup milk or heavy cream your choice

Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions

Peel and chop the potatoes and Turnips into 2-3cm cubes. Put the turnips in a large pan and cover with cold, salted water, then bring to the boil over a medium-high heat for 15 minutes. Lower the heat slightly and cook for an additional 10 mins, then add the potatoes. Boil for another 15 mins or until the potato is just tender, then drain well in a colander. Allow to steam-dry for a few minutes before transferring back to the pan and mashing with the butter and plenty of seasoning. Serve with additional butter on top or top with gravy of choice. Enjoy
