Crockpot Ham with Pineapple
There is nothing like a glaze
being poured over a spiral ham with pineapple slice on Easter, Thanksgiving or
Christmas to make me feel festive.
This recipe is time honored and
completely old-fashioned because it’s made with simple ingredients like brown
sugar, spices, pineapple slices, and cherries. Although my mother made hers in
the oven, I opted to revise the recipe to be made in the slow cooker. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
7-8
pound bone-in spiral cut ham
1/2
cup brown sugar
1/2
teaspoon dry mustard
1
teaspoon cloves
1
(20oz) can sliced pineapple
16
maraschino cherries
Instructions
In a bowl mix together the brown
sugar, mustard, and cloves.
Unwrap the ham, and pat off any
excess juice with a paper towel. Add pre-cut side down in crockpot. Rub the
brown sugar mixture all over the ham, getting in between the crevasses and
slices for maximum flavor.
Gently place pineapple slices
overtop the ham, resting on the side of crock if needed, use toothpicks to
ensure they don’t move once place on the ham. Add 1-2 cherries to the center of
each pineapple.
Cover and cook at HIGH 3-4 hours
or LOW 4-6 hours. Time will vary depending on the size of your ham.
Set aside pineapple and cherries
for serving. Carefully remove the ham from crockpot, a pair of sturdy large
tongs and spatula is helpful here. To make glaze transfer the remaining liquid
from the crockpot to a small saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat, bring to a
boil to reduce down* until ready to serve.
To carve the ham place pre-cut
side down. Carve down along the bone to remove boneless section of meat, the
sprial cut should now be perfect serving slices. Cotinue to cut the meat from
off the bone in sections. Transfers the slices to a platter for serving. Serve
with the fruit and glaze.
