Basic Cream Sauce

The White Cream Sauce, or Bechamel Sauce, is the ultimate sauce foundation! So versatile, you can melt in any cheese for delicious Alfredo or creamy mac & cheese.  Whip it up with just 3 ingredients in under 10 minutes!

I use this basic cream sauce as the beginning of my alfredo sauce, for creamed cauliflower, or creamed spinach, and as the base for my cheese sauce for Mac and Cheese. It’s the best sauce to start making your major sauces from.

This sauce is also great poured over cooked cauliflower pieces for your holiday fanfare.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons of butter

2 tablespoons flour

1 cup milk, whole milk or heavy cream

pinch salt and white pepper

Instructions

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium low heat.

Add flour to melted butter and stir with a whisk to prevent any lumps.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Cook, stir, constantly and scrape the bottom of the pan to keep it from sticking for 2 minutes.

Pour 1 cup of milk or heavy cream slowly into the butter-flour mixture while whisking constantly, making sure there are no lumps.

It will start thickening.

Continue to simmer and stir until thickened.

Remove from heat and use as desired.
