Notes
Taste it as you go: Before serving the Italian barley soup,
taste it. That way you know if it needs more salt, garlic or anything else.
Boost shelf life: Add an oxygen absorber to the
barley soup in a jar mix to extend the shelf life. Oxygen absorbers are those
little packages that say “do not eat” on them. They work by absorbing moisture
and oxygen, helping to prevent spoilage and mold.
Get everything you need: Before you start, make sure you
have a pint-sized wide mouth mason jar, printable labels and butcher’s twine.
Label the jar: It’s important that you label the jar
with the soup mix ingredients as well as the instructions to make the soup when
you’re ready.
Gift-giving: These soups in jars make adorable and
useful gifts! So, make extra for friends and family who like homemade soup and
robust, hearty flavors. They will love these edible gifts when it’s holiday
gift giving time.
