Ziti with Meat Sauce
Ingredients:
1 Box of Ziti pasta
1 lb. ground round (known as hamburger meat or ground beef)
2 (14.5 ounce) cans
stewed tomatoes
1 (6 ounce) can
tomato paste
4 tablespoons chopped
fresh parsley
1 clove garlic,
minced
1 teaspoon dried
oregano
1 teaspoon of dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground
black pepper
6 tablespoons olive
oil
1/3 cup finely diced
onion
1 tablespoon of sugar
1/2 cup red wine
Directions
Cook Ziti according to directions.
In a skillet, brown the ground round meat until completely cooked. Drain and set aside.
Using your food processor place tomatoes, tomato paste,
chopped parsley, minced garlic, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper, and puree all
ingredients.
In a large skillet, over medium, heat sauté the
chopped onion in olive oil for a minute or two, or until slightly translucent. Add tomato puree and red wine and simmer
for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Be sure to taste it every so often to
ensure the taste is to your liking. Don't be afraid to add a little more
garlic, oregano or basil to the mix. Add cooked meat to sauce and let simmer on low heat for 10 minutes.
Serve hot ziti in large serving bowl topped with sauce and meat. Enjoy.
