DIY Body Scrubs
I’ve been a big believer of exfoliation of your skin for
many years and making my own exfoliating blends and scrubs has been a given in
my life. A few people have asked over the year how do you make a body scrub
that won’t break the bank. It’s simple and economical once you get the hang of
it. In this post I plan to give you a few recipes I’ve used over the years to
exfoliate my skin. So, let’s get started. For the jar or bottle, I recycle the small
ones from like garlic in a jar, it’s the perfect size for a small amount of
body scrub that doesn’t go bad on you and not much waste either.
Ingredients and tools you will need:
Jar small
Mixing bowl small
Measuring cup or spoon
Base oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, or grapeseed oil
Essential oils if desired
After you have found the above items in your pantry or cupboard
you need to decide whether to use salt crystals, sugar or coffee as your scrub.
Your scrub shouldn’t be runny so much so that it runs through
your fingers and ends up on the floor, in the sink or in the bottom of the tub.
You want to be able to scoop it up and apply it to your skin so the consistency
must be right. Your scrub must be effective on your skin by removing dead skin cells
on the surface of your skin. Coffee granules are gentle enough but still able
to scrub your skin well enough.
Coffee Scrub recipe:
½ cup coffee grounds
1 tbsp coconut oil slightly warmed
2 tablespoons hot water
In a mixing bowl, combine coffee grounds with hot water and
mix thoroughly then add in the coconut oil and mix until you get a good
consistency. Once you achieve the consistency you want put into jar and close.
Store in cool dry place.
Brown Sugar Scrub
Everyone usually has brown sugar
in their pantry so why not use it to clear your skin of any dead cells. If you
have sensitive skin this is best to use for that. Not to worry your skin might
feel sticky after use, but that’s what warm water and a washcloth is for to
clean your skin off.
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup oil of your choice
Essential oil if you choice to use
it. Vanilla, banana, Lemon, Orange
Once you achieve the consistency you want put into jar and close.
Store in cool dry place.
Sea Salt Scrub
Please note sea salt can be very
abrasive to the skin especially if you have sensitive skin. If you have open sores
do not use the sea salt scrub concept.
½ cup sea salt
½ cup of oil
Essential oil if you choice to use
it. Vanilla, banana, Lemon, Orange
Once you achieve the consistency you want put into jar and close.
Store in cool dry place.
Happy exfoliating. Be sure to use a facial cleansing machine that is hand held.
