Apple Butter

Apple Butter is one of my favorite things to make during the apple-picking season. In case you don't know Apple-Picking Season is during the month of September. Beautiful Ripe Apples can be turned into so many luscious desserts such as apple pie, apple salsa, and my favorite Apple Butter. So let's get to making some Apple Butter.

I use to make Apple Butter in a copper pot on the stove but as I got older I took a few shortcuts then I found this recipe to make it in the crock pot. It's so delicious.

Ingredients:

6 Large Apples (peeled, cord, finely chopped) I use Gala or Honeycrisp Apples)
1/3 cup raw sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon ground
1/8 tsp allspice
1/8 tsp nutmeg (freshly ground if you don't have dried)

Cooking Instructions:

In your slow cooker, place apple pieces and cover with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix it well then cook for 5 hours on high or low for approximately 8-10 hours, stirring every few hours. Once apples are tender and dark brown, remove them from the crockpot. Puree the mixture either in a food processor or by using an immersion blender. Continue cooking uncovered for another 2 hours until the mixture has thickened. Once it is thick, spoon it into jars or containers and either can in a water bath according to Ball Canning directions or refrigerate.
Enjoy!
