Homemade Pizza Dough
Pizza is an American pastime that can’t be lived without. It’s
not only good hot, but if made correctly, good even cold for breakfast. The
dough it’s made from can be used as pizza dough, calzones, and sometimes even
just bread. It can be frozen and saved for months at a time, just thaw, and
cook as normal. So, let’s make some pizza dough.
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups warm water
1/4 cup sugar
3 teaspoons instant yeast
¼ cup veggie oil
6 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
Directions:
In a large bowl combine water, sugar, and yeast. All mixture
to sit for a few minutes to ensure yeast is activated and becomes frothy. Once
you see frothing in the mixture add your veggie oil and stir. Then add in ½ your
flour and salt mixing well to combine all ingredients. Continue adding flour
until the dough can be pulled away from the side and made into a ball. The
dough will be a little sticky so you might need to add additional flour to it
until it is smooth but won’t pull apart easily when you try to pull it apart. Turn
the dough over and coat with some oi. Cover the bowl with a towel and allow it
to rise in room temperature area until it doubles in size.
Once the dough has doubled turn it out onto a floured work
surface and kneed for a few minutes until the dough has relaxed enough to work
with. Cut it in half, each piece should weigh about a pound each. Roll the
dough out into a circle and place it on a pizza tray for the oven. Spread over
your sauce and fixings and cook accordingly, usually in a preheated oven at 475
degrees F. for at least 30 minutes. You can freeze the other ball of dough for
another time if you’re cooking it right away. The bottom of your crust should
be golden brown but not burnt. Enjoy.
In another bowl combine your flour and salt then
